A personal work for concert band that traverses the many shades of a mental health journey, including moments of anger, mania, anxiety, security, warmth, and hope.

Premiered in 2021 by the St. Olaf Band, conducted by Dr. Timothy Mahr. Performed in 2023 by the Edina High School Concert Band, conducted by Paul Kile.

A celebratory work for concert band that encourages players and listeners alike to mind the preciousness of music-making.

 

Commissioned and premiered in 2023 by the Minnesota Symphonic Winds, conducted by Dr. Timothy Mahr.

An orchestration of two piano works by American composer Amy Beach. "Nocturne" and "The Old Chapel By Moonlight" pair perfectly in this brand new setting for band.

 

Commissioned and premiered in 2024 by the St. Olaf Band, conducted by Dr. Henry Dorn.

the tortoise and the hare

A contemplative arrangement of the solemn winter hymn for concert band.

Premiered in 2022 by the Edina High School Concert Band, conducted by Paul Kile.

A celebration of human determination in devastating situations, and a recognition of the suffering that necessitates such resolve.

Commissioned and premiered in 2024 by the Northfield High School Concert Band for their performance at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Midwinter Clinic.

One of the most iconic hits from Taylor Swift's 1989 album was just begging to be a stadium tune.

Premiered by the Plymouth High School marching band in 2015.

Aesop's fable, as told by a beginning band, complete with lumbering tortoise and speedy hare.

 

Written for the 6th Grade Band at Riverview Middle School in 2020.

Birdsong

Music for oboe, violin, piano, and narrator. This piece is to be performed while the book Birdsong by Julie Flett is read aloud. A performance lasts about 20 minutes.

Commissioned and premiered by the Utka Ensemble in 2026.

Through Hills of Oak and Quartzite

A contemplative work for English horn and cello, inspired by the topography and ancient history of the Driftless Area in southwestern Wisconsin.

 

Commissioned and premiered by Kristen Diederichs for her DMA recital at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2025.

An increasingly chaotic chamber work for trumpet and percussion, including percussion in the trumpet part.

 

Commissioned and premiered in 2021 by trumpeter Sarah Wagner, with Tommy Dainko on percussion.

An exciting work for wind quintet, inspired by the first photo of a black hole, that imagines a trip through space to the edge of a void.

 

Premiered in November 2019 at Spiritus Novus' Music of the Void concert at St. Olaf College.

A cinematic work for string quartet, inspired by incoming storm clouds in a Midwestern summer sky.

Premiered in 2018 by the Mivos Quartet at the Walden Creative Musicians Retreat.

A work for flute choir that depicts a late October day when leaves are brittle and the sky is grey. Pelting rain and wind gusts are heard throughout the piece.

 

Composed for a 2018 workshop with the

St. Olaf Flute Choir.
